heads up

a friend in the neighborhood just alerted me today to the fact that there have been a series of muggings in the blocks surrounding 19th and taraval. a friend of ours was just mugged a week or so ago. apparently there are a few gangs (one chinese and one mexican) who have been hanging around the new(ish) hawaiian bbq on the corner. they have been preying on people walking home from local bars. the word is that they send in a scout to watch people at the bars -- how much they are drinking, how they are paying, how much cash they have, etc. -- and then follow their victims until they get at least a block or so off of taraval street. our friend was mugged at 20th and ulloa.

please be careful!!

that BBQ joint is MARVELOUS. I ordered mahi off the menu and they pulled out a frozen fried fillet and threw it in the microwave. Served it with some tartar sauce and microwaved fries.

      Thanks barbarians!

For those into zombies... I was thinking of the phrase, "they're coming to get you barbarians"

anyhoo... not to make light... but it sounds like your friend is healthy and safe. Thanks for the info.

oh and uncle fishbits, he is healthy and safe. he is the kind of guy that'll give you whatever you ask for so that's probably a big reason why he came out of it unscathed, although he was roughed up a little.

the gypsy cab companies in the area are a much safer bet on getting home late at night, even if you only live a few blocks away from your local watering hole.... usually they are pretty cheap.

ugh -- glad to see the JT's tradition is still alive and well. did it cost like $15 for that, too?
